How Does It Work
Jonathan raises money and awareness through presentations to community organizations, in schools, sister school dialogues, and in interviews with the media. A volunteer Board of Directors provides guidance and assistance with outreach, budget management, and technical support. In 2004, Direct Aid International received 501-©-3 status as a non-profit organization with donations qualifying for tax deductions. Jonathan has established working relationships with the Swedish Commission for Afghanistan, the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, and the Balkan Sunflowers. He and Direct Aid International, however, are independent of any other organization, and Jonathan travels alone, often with a translator and sometimes with a bodyguard. Inherent within the mission of Direct Aid International is the delivery of assistance to areas deemed too dangerous for travel by many service providers.
