Jonathan raises money and awareness through presentations to community organizations, in schools, sister school dialogues, and in interviews with the media. A volunteer Board of Directors provides guidance and assistance with outreach, budget management, and technical support. In 2003, Direct Aid International received 501-(c)-3 status as a non-profit organization with donations qualifying for tax deductions.  Jonathan and Direct Aid International are independent of any other organization, and Jonathan travels alone, often with a translator and sometimes with a bodyguard. Inherent within the mission of Direct Aid International is the delivery of assistance to areas deemed too dangerous for travel by many service providers.
